What we prepare

What we prepare for GeM

  • The document pack, checked for matching names

GeM's FAQ asks that names match across records. We line up the Aadhaar or PAN name, the business PAN, the bank account name and the registered address so the check does not stop on a spelling.

  • A brand file

For a registered brand, the trademark document in the right class. For an unregistered brand or an OEM, the undertaking in GeM's prescribed format, set up for signature, stamping, notarisation and attestation.

  • A product catalogue in buyer language

A government buyer searches by specification. We write each item with its specification, make, model and pack, in the plain terms a purchase officer would use.

  • An MSME and start-up exemption note

Where you hold a Udyam number or a start-up number, we mark where GeM's FAQ says it matters for bid deposits.

  • A bid-paper checklist

The papers a bid asks for, including income tax returns for older businesses, kept in one folder.

You provide

  • Your Aadhaar or PAN details, business PAN, bank account with IFSC, registered address and an active email.
  • CIN if you are a company, and returns where GeM's FAQ asks for them.
  • Your trademark or the signed undertaking, and a Udyam or start-up number if you hold one.

GeM decides

  • Validation of identity, PAN, Udyam and bank, and the bank check through PFMS.
  • Brand and OEM approval, and any Vendor Assessment.
  • Its charges, which it can change. We print none.

How it works

Who does what for a GeM registration

GeM's own steps

  • Sign up as a seller or service provider, then complete the Business Profile. Payments go to the bank account on the profile once it is verified by PFMS.

  • Brand and OEM approval is GeM's. For a registered brand GeM asks for a registered trademark document in the relevant category or class. For an unregistered brand or an OEM it asks for an undertaking in its prescribed format, signed, stamped, notarised and attested, plus a Vendor Assessment or an exemption from it.

  • Names have to match across records: the Aadhaar name and the ITR authorised-signatory name for the Key Person check, and the Udyam name against the Udyam portal.

Fees

Fees on GeM

GeM describes its seller charges in the seller FAQ. The amounts and the tax treatment can change, and they need a chartered accountant's reading, so we print none.

  • The FAQ describes an annual milestone charge and a transaction charge, with tax deducted at source on them above a threshold. Read the FAQ for the current terms.

In depth

Registering as a seller on GeM

A marketplace with government buyers

GeM is the Government e-Marketplace, and the buyers on it are government organisations. That changes what a seller prepares. The audience is a purchase officer reading a specification, not a shopper scrolling images, and the paperwork is closer to a tender file than to a shop listing. GeM's seller FAQ is the document that sets the requirements, and we quote it in the sections above.

GeM states that a seller can register as a product seller and as a service provider, that one account is allowed per email, and that Aadhaar is no longer mandatory because personal PAN can be used for identity. It lists a GST number as optional, for inter-state business. Those details change who in your business should be the primary user.

Names must match, everywhere

The FAQ says the Key Person check compares the Aadhaar name with the authorised-signatory name on the income tax return, and that the two must be the same. It also says the Udyam name must match the Udyam portal exactly. Small differences, an initial in one place and a full name in another, are the kind that stop a registration. We lay out each record side by side and flag differences while they are still cheap to fix.

Payments go to the bank account on the profile once it has been verified by PFMS, according to GeM's activation guidance. Use the account whose name matches the business PAN, and check the IFSC twice.

Brand and OEM approval is GeM's

For a registered brand, GeM asks for a trademark document in the relevant category or class. For an unregistered brand or an OEM, it asks for an undertaking in its prescribed format, signed, stamped, notarised and attested, and a Vendor Assessment or an exemption from it. We prepare the file; approval is entirely GeM's.

GeM describes an annual milestone charge, a transaction charge and tax deducted at source in its FAQ. Because the amounts can change and their tax reading needs a professional, we print none and recommend you take them to your chartered accountant. After registration, the work is catalogue upkeep and bid readiness; see catalogue management and marketplace activation. We never promise an approval date, an order or a revenue figure.
